My Achievements Thusfar for CAS

I have never blogged before, so this will be a new and interesting experience! Over the course of the year I intend to keep tabs on my completed hours for CAS and various other shenanigans which involve IB through this little online journal; I hope to provide pictures as some evidence for this IB journey. My hours will be color coordinated: my creativity hours will be in green, my action hours purple, and my service hours in blue.

As expressed above I have just begun my blog, but I have already completed several hours of CAS. Many of my current service hours stem from honors society; however, I will soon be volunteering my time at Crestwood Elementary after school when available and will blog about that in the future. I also will make a blog about my actions on the swim team after the swim banquet this friday. Here is the creativity, action, and service which I have already finished since the beginning of the year minus my involvement in swim:

Oct 15, 2010. 2:45pm-3:00pm. Homecoming parade. (Creativity)
The dedicated group of IBers who stuck to the original plan.
The homecoming parade was originally supposed to be composed of all of the IB kids (including both juniors & seniors), but many students didn't end up attending or helping out, so we ended up with a total of six girls by the end. Though various IBers could not help out for legitimate reasons, there were many who just chose not to last minute without warning. For those of us who followed through with the parade, this displayed our commitment to being a part of IB and our dedication.I learned that keeping your word is a major deal, especially when part of a team effort; it really ups your honor when you do! As for the poster we made, it was a real hit amongst the crowd and we were proud to strut it with its humorous message.

Oct 15, 2010. 3:00pm-6:00pm. Homecoming carnival. (Service)
Both an IB History and IB English teacher took part in being one big mess of whip cream. Oh the joy.
My student teacher for IB English, Mr. Phalon, pied by me. It was a proud moment.
Though you can hardly tell who this young man is, it happens to be my dear friend Sam Rigsby covered from the back of his neck to the bottom of his chin in whip cream by pure skill on my part.
For this event I helped set up for the carnival itself, and helped run the booth for honors society. Our booth was dedicated to throwing pies at various faculty members as well as a few Sumner High students. I helped to create the pies and handle the tickets. It was really fun to greet new people and be a part of the Sumner community. I learned how to adequately run a carnival event (which I had never done) and that the simple, small community of Sumner is really close-knit. Towards the end of the carnival, I was able to pie a few people guiltlessly for my own pleasure which also made the occasion memorable.

Oct 28, 2010. 5:30pm-8:00pm. Walk around conferences. (Service)
The "Open House" or walk around conferences were delightful! I got a chance to stroll around with a food cart while wearing fancy attire and trying to nourish the starving teachers. Who wouldn't want to partake in that? Not to mention I was able to hold some stimulating conversations with a few parents and staff members that I normally would not have had the opportunity to do so with. I discovered that I may enjoy feeding the homeless at some point over the next two years, because I really take pleasure in mingling with new people and making sure that they are cared for appropriately. Overall I enjoyed feeding the array of famished adults.
